I got to feed him carrots and rub his back with a brush, which made him wiggle in delight and his tiny tail wag like crazy. If you couldn’t tell, I love rhinos and elephants, but the experience with Stewie was probably my favorite. We got to see an elephant check-in/training session, rhinos up close, a private safari truck tour, the lions indoor habitat, a behind the scenes animal ambassador visit, drive by of various animals, and a visit with Stewie, the warthog. It was pricey, but amazing! Our guide (Joseph) took us to various places around the park based on our requested animals (no guarantees to see requested animals - they’ll ask you for your list when you book). We just did the 5 hour Ultimate Safari (1 hour is lunch). It’s really interesting and great to see rhinos closer, including some younger ones. The rhino experience takes you to the Nikita Khan Rescue Center, where you learn about how the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is working to bring back the Northern White Rhino from functional extinction (there’s only 2 females left). You get closer to the animals (a few yards) and get to spend time watching them and speaking to knowledgeable guides. We have done the rhino and elephant ones. There are several behind the scenes upgrades, as well. There is a free tram that circles one part of the savanna a paid safari truck ride will take you into it with the animals. roam together, as you would see in Africa. ![]() The centerpiece of the park is a huge savanna living space where rhinos, giraffes, gazelle, etc. ![]() as well as gorillas, tigers, elephants, cheetahs, lions, etc. The animals are quite spaced out to give them a more natural environment, so there is quite a bit of walking, a fair amount unshaded. Food is normal amusement park fare, but you can bring things in. There is a fee to park unless you are a member. My husband and I have visited the Safari Park many times. ![]()
